Shafer Trail141 viewsLooking back down out the driver's window at some of the switchbacks I had climbed below coming out of Shafer. If we run White Rim this year, we will get to start our morning off at daybreak by going down these switchbacks.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Dinosaur Tracks111 viewsMy one disappointment, albeit exciting, was the dinosaur tracks! I was expecting something out of Jurassic Park, and as you can see, these tracks are for a pretty scrawny little dino..... These are the one's at the Poison Spider trailhead.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Alternate Trails138 viewsSome of the trails offer more fun trails, like this one of my son running up a dried up creek bed. You have to be careful to stay on authorized trails, as some are just where people run where they want to and tear things up.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Rock Climbing100 viewsIt's not uncommon to see rock climbers along the bluffs too. We stopped and watched this one climb for awhile.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Petroglyphs96 viewsYou can see the little hunter when up close, but not likely from the road. There were hundreds of smaller ones all along the bluff.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Petroglyphs94 viewsThere are several places where you can see the petroglyphs from the road, and some where you can pull over and climb up to see them up close. Some are so small, they are not visible from the road, and it's only after you climb up there you and explore you begin to find them. This was way cool to me! airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Going Down!102 viewsI remembered a valuable lesson here about approach angles going up vs going down! When I dropped the rear axle off this one, I landed on the rear bumper/hitch. The good news, I knew enough to gas it a little to clear the gas tank that my son insisted i was going to smash (which I"m sure I would have).airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Yes... I Dance Everywhere!124 viewsSo here we are heading out onto the trail... when over the CB I hear my daughter n law making fun of me bopping along to my Sirius satellite. Well, whatever it was she said, prompted me to just stop on the trail and start dancing! So yes... I dance everywhere! airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Bull Canyon - Gemini Bridges95 viewsThe Bull Canyon trail will lead you to the base of Gemini Bridges. It was really cool to see it from both angles. From left to right is my son, my brother, and me.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Bull Canyon106 viewsSometimes even the wide, well traveled roads will suddenly present a small obstacle. That grows larger as you get closer.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Gemini Bridges111 viewsSome things don't look so steep, that is until you go over the edge and start down! airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Gemini Bridges100 viewsThere are two arches that are side by side, with just a few feet separating them. Looking down through the arches, is Bull Canyon, another great trail and view looking up at Gemini Bridges. Driving on the arches is prohibited due to the death of a jeeper that fell off, but you can see fresh rubber marks where some still dare to drive out there. I was quite content to just be walking out there, and in fact had to take a seat once when the wind suddenly started blowing about 70 mph.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Long Canyon Trail102 viewsThis may not seem that narrow, but it was steep and slippery, much more so than the picture makes it look. When it rains, this trail can be flowing with 20 or 30 feet of water raging down it. airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Long Canyon Trail95 viewsThis is a view looking down into Long Canyon at the top of the trail. We went all the way down to the canyon floor and out the other end. This canyon is off limits during rain.airforceretFeb 15, 2009

Long Canyon Trail104 viewsAs you can see the rock is significantly larger than a vehicle! BLM warned that only one vehicle should pass beneath the fallen rock at a time, and to maintain a safe distance while vehicles are pass beneath the rock in case the rock should decide to shift and fall. airforceretFeb 15, 2009
