what trans and transfer case would you use? Would you want to convert that 283 to fuel injection or delete the electronics on the jeep side and run a carb?

well i've always liked carb but what would be required to keep the engine carb. and anyway possible to stick with stock trans and transfer case. if not what would be best. i've never done an engine swap and dont really know what i'd need to do.

You are looking at some coin. You cant hook a AW4 up to a chevy motor, there may be an adapter you could buy though. Call Novak or Advance adapters tomorrow and ask away. Is there a powerglide sitting off the back of that 283? You could get an adapater to go TH350 to the 231 transfer case, but there your looking at 400-500 bucks just for that im guessing. again just call either of those 2 companys that make adapters and they should quickly be able to help.

well chevys are a passenger side drop application, and we have drivers side drop, so a chevy app wont work. You could nab a dana 300 and just flip it, but there might be an adapter neccessary for that too...someone will have to chime in on that.

hmm seems like a ton of work. well anyone wanna buy a 283 for any other project they have lol. i could just find a transmission for it and convert to two wheel drive but that would be no fun.

i put a 350 in my 89 YJ, and kept the stock jeep auto trans. Used a adapter ring from advance adapters between bellhousing and block, didn't care for that set up too much, got alot of flex out of it and a couple cracked flywheels.
