TJ D30 Ball Joints

Post by Run4lo »

Ok, I figure its about time I replace the ball joints in my Jeep. I only have 170,000 miles on them  . My question is should I upgrade to a Synergy or Moog or something of the sorts? Or is the OEM replacement good enough? Has anyone out there replaced them and ran them long enough to know if you like what you switched to? Let the discussion begin...

Have not replaced them on mine yet, but I am told Moog is the way to go. Take that for what it is worth

There's really only two choices. The cheap-o's or the 2x as expensive one's. What you will probably find is Spicer only offers the expen$ive style, and Moog, and the rest of the gang offer cheap-o and 2x as expensive one's.

I don't really like replacing them more than once every 8-10 years, so I buy the good stuff. But I also HATE bearings made in CHINA (Timken ONLY) as well, so you can def say... I'm a parts snob...lol...

Kind of what I was thinking too but, wouldn't mind upgrading if it wasn't twice the cost as OEM.

jason, upgrading is allways a good thing, just whatever you do dont go for the el-cheapo's, i think you would regret it, but i would think oem or spicer upgrades would be good. :)

I just finished replacing mine a couple weeks ago and went with these MOOG part numbers. They list for about $60-72 each but I ended up getting them for about $50 each.

If you do your own, be sure to keep the cap bolts for the lower zerks as you'll need to remove the zerks after filling with grease or they'll get knocked off by the axle u-joint!!! :)

I ended up going with the Moog from RockAuto.com. Changed them this past weekend in 5 hours. The lowers were a little stubborn! Although I do notice a difference it did not cure all the issues I have going on up front. I think next will be replacing the drag link ends to see if that helps.

His ball joint project is going faster than mine!!! Which led to new axle shaft joints, then crossover steering, then new Currie TJJ track bar, now Currie AntiRock... LOL

Roger... Moab is coming!!! So I gotta get it together soon!!!
