WOW that is crazy! I am glad to hear the driver is alright.

That is why I never use a D-ring in the middle, I lace the straps together.

Another thing, never use a chain to yank a stuck vehicle. I witnessed a ford getting yanked out with a 20ft. chain b ackwards. It broke at the truck pulling him out flew up wraped around the top of the truck and went through the windshield and smacked the guys wife in the face. Luckily she only had to get stitches and knocked a tooth or two out. I have also seen a strap take ouy a few back windows and blow apart a few tailgates. Its noy pretty when this stuff happens. Never use a slit strap. Its worth every penny to spend 50 bucks and buy a quality strap. Also if you have a winch try to save the bones and get synthetic line, it just drops when it break. That the main reason I got mine.
As far as far as getting a vehicle unstuck wether it be a strap or a winch always use extreme caution. ITS THE MOST DANGEROUS PART OF WHEELING.

Good idea. You never no when you gonna pull out that one a hole and he tries to sue you for scuffing their bumper.
