gearing my dana30/35c combo

Post by sandfox »

ok guys ,so i got the new tj driving, its rolling on 31x10.50 tires and 3:07 gears ,so if i regear i will need new carriers, no problem i have a set used bent up axles with 3.73 on the way cheep, pull the internals and replace mine with those, or..... spend more money and buy some 4:10 gears, so i can run some 33's with out sacrificing performance. what do ya think?
2013 jku sahara, 2.5 teraflex lift, 315 series generals, 410 gears ,just the new dune toy
2009 jku rubicon, 4"teraflex, 315 tires, 410 gears, oh did I mention 5.7 HEMI ?
APRIL 2010 J.O.T.M

I think you should go with the 3.73's since youll have next to nothing in both carriers and f &r gears. I had 3.73's in the rubiclone with a 5 speed and still got 19mpg with 32's. Are you planning to keep this Jeep forever and ever?

if you want to run the bigger tires and go with 4.10s it probably be cheaper to pick up some 4cyl axles then to buy the gears and install kits for a gear change.

Use the 3.73 if it's cheep...but if you are going to buy gears. don't waste time with 4:10's. Your going to move to 35's some day. you can add some some alloy shafts... my .02 is if your buying new gears, go 4:56's at a min or outside 4:88's

ya i had 3:73 in my 98 with 32's and i didnt have any problems holding 5th gear, i'll probably be selling this come spring ( or whenever someone shows up with cash ) , with the tube fenders i think i could fit 33"s with no lift, or 3in lift and 35's , i'm steering towards just running the 3.73 to save some money. i was driving it today doing 55mph in 3rd gear at about 2500 rpm, i cant stand it.
