Insurance after a lift?

Post by David TJ Blue SPIRAL2 »

I mentioned to my car insurance agent that I was planning to do a lift soon and was told they would not be able to insure me if I did so.

Any suggestions where to get insurance after getting my lift?

Thanks! :)

I have American Family and they didn't care. I sent them photos for my file since I added a rider for my extra equipment/modifications.

State Farm said as long as the bottom of the bumpers are less than 36" I was fine. Also said keep current pics for any upgrades.

Looks like anybody but your insurance, huh!?! Liberty Mutual has no restrictions. I do wonder, though, with any insurance, they'll cover you on road but maybe not off.

I have progressive and they are fine with my lifted jeep. They even asked if I wanted to have "off road" insurance!!

Yea progressive is the bomb when it comes to modified jeeps and offroading. Indiana Farmers is pretty awesome too. When I totaled my XJ, they covered all the lift, bumper, winch and rock rails.

Well what I have learned is EVERYONE's insurance company is good with a lifted/modded Jeep. Its just yours that seems to have an issue with it. You need to do some comparison shopping on price and make the jump.

I have State Farm in Niles. They have been great for everything in the past. I will ask them about the 36 inch bumper rule. I plan to lift enough for 35's is all. If it's a problem I will obviously have to switch :). Thank you for the input everyone.

Bumper height in Indiana is limited to 30" to the bottom of the bumper. Not that I have ever heard of them checking trucks/Jeeps.

IC 9-19-4-2
Trucks with declared gross weight of not more than 11,000 pounds
Sec. 2. When operated upon a highway, a motor vehicle registered as a truck with a declared gross weight of not more than eleven thousand (11,000) pounds must be equipped with bumpers of substantial construction on the extreme front and the extreme rear of the vehicle. The height of the front and rear bumpers may not exceed thirty (30) inches when measured from level pavement to the bottom of the bumper.
As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.7.
