Tires & Wheels

Post by Hana Hou »

I'm wondering a few things because I'd like to get slightly bigger tires and maybe new rims.

1) Where is the best place to go?

2) How do I know how big I can get without having to lift my Jeep? 2011 Wrangler

3) What type of tire is better for me becuase I want something that will be good in the sand and some off roading but will have to work for daily driving as well.

Any advice would ROCK!

You could go as big as 33x12.5 on a stock hight. 2011 Rubicon's come standard with 32x11.5. Depending on your stock wheel width some shops may not mount a 12.5 wide tire if your stock wheel is pretty narrow. Goodyear Duratracs are good all around all-terrain choice and fairly inexpensive. I buy all my tires through Discount Tire in Dunlap.

Thanks!!!! Going to Discount in Mishawaka Sat morning. I need to get them rotated. Right now I have been told I can wait a little bit before needing tires but I have 3 trips to Bowling Green KY coming up and 2 are the end of December. Not knowing if waiting is really the best thing to do. I have ok tred but in the snow that much on highway thinking maybe before hand is better IDK
Thanks for the help!

One more ? is there a big difference in gas or anything if I go with a more beefy tire? I have been told that going up just a little will not change the speedometer (? sp). Not really looking to lift much because I like the sand and don't want the easier roll over factor. Maybe after paid off in a gazillion years I will lift!

i buy re treads and they are very good i wont buy anything else. before you go name brand check out treadwrite i have a lifted '10 and i run 35's but you can fit 33's easy i had those before i lifted and gas isnt going to change alot you will notice a difference in the height but thats pretty much it and the speedo wont change until you get over 75 and even then its maybe 2-3 mph difference

i have some falken A/T wildpeaks, they have been awesome in that they love everything i've thrown at them except the worst mud there is, and have a tread somewhat like a street tire, they are very nice on the road.
i think discount has their own version of this tire in the rocky mountain.

I have the Falkens too. It is also a good A/T to look at. Yes, Discount sells it. Going to bigger tires will give you slightly better MPG on the highway but slightly worse MPG in city. And yes, at higher speeds (say 60) you may be traveling 2 mph faster than your speedo says. Not a big deal. For me (and my much larger tires than stock) I just know that at 35 mph I'm actually going about 37 mph and at 55 I'm going about 60 MPH.
