Ok, i was in the middle of changing the axle shaft on the xj and noticed there was about a half inch thick coating of mud caked up in the axle tube itself, my concern is putting the axle shaft back in i dont want to push the dirt and mud into the differential, anyone ever have this problem or know of a good way to clean it out? as you can see from the picture, the pile of dirt and mud on the driveway is what i was able to scrape out it, but would like to know of any other ideas on how to clean it out.... thanks

When we were working on Bill Jones's axle I used a vacuum with a small nozzle to suck out as much as I could... seemed to work pretty good.

ya, tape shop vac hose to a piece of pipe, and run it back and forth in the tube, it'll clean it out real good
