ive had my cherokee in the shop 3 times for the same problem and its still not fixed! i have a real loud (feels like grinding) noise coming from the front of the vehicle. the noise gets worse in 4wd.. replaced both hub bearings and u-joints in the front. still there! had the shop look at it and they told me it was the t-case! so i replaced the t-case and the noise is still there!! now its in the shop again and they dont know what the problem is! noise is there with front or rear drive shaft out. dont know what else to do!! any suggestions would be helpful. id really hate to just throw more parts at it!!

Have you checked the carrier bearings or even pinion bearing

they looked at them, said they were not loose. they pulled the fill plug stuck a magnet inside and didnt have any metal shavings so they dont think that they are bad. i think it could be, but id hate to replace them and not fix it.

Don't know who they is. But with out pulling cover and yoke and carrier there's no way to tell if there bad with out pulling it down! Be my guess. The bearings have pits or even flaking off the hardened material. And you cant see that till you pull it down

I am with Troy. I'd almost be willing to bet it's the carrier bearings. I've had to do replace the bearings on 4 different Jeeps now...ironically each of them had over 100k on them. You'll physically need to pull the shafts, pop the carrier out, and inspect. I'd also grab ahold of the yoke and see if there is any play in it. Good luck.
