So the previous owner of my Jeep installed a winch on the front bumber. They didn't not take care of the winch and the steel cable is all frayed up and refuse to use it till I replace the cable. Im thinking of going synthetic rope. What is a good choice? anyone else used synthetic? I dont have alot of money to spend on it right now, so high brand names is kinda out of the question for now..

I have 1/2 inch synthetic line made by Viking, I absolutely love it. I will never own a winch with metal line again.

I know that my winch line is incredibly costly, but I know that there are cheaper alternatives, but keep in mind that while the cheap lines are very strong you will need to take better care of them, many of them have poor UV protection but as long as you keep your winch covered when not in use that shouldn't be a problem, Also the cheaper lines tend to have less abrasion resistance so its important you use a line saver when you drag it against anything. Something to remember with the synthetic is while yes it does cost more its also so much safer, it weighs less and its easier to handle.

also something to keep in mind, using synthetic rope on a winch not designed for it can be dangerous, the brake mech. is in the drum, the same drum that the line is wrapped around, and alot of start stop cycles will get the drum VERY hot, causing a degrading of the line. i use syn on my drum braked winch, but i also am very careful to not let alot of starting and stopping take place. i also have a winch line and hook for sale, 3/8"x80' .... no frayed wires...i will take 100 bucks.

if you want a good deal on a synthetic winch line PM me.
i can get you a blue 3/4"x80' 17,500lbs for $170, or a 1/2"x92' 12,500lbs for $150 either one will come with a sleeve protector and an eye braided into the end. or if you are particular, i can get one made of DYNEEMA its 5/16"x92' 10,000lbs with hook and sliding rock guard for $185

if you are interested let me know
