Rattle in front end?

Postby LakePirate » February 14th, 2014, 1:17 pm
I have a very disturbing rattle in front end, no vibration . I jacked up shook all by hand nothing moves, tightened on shock up but still does it. Wheels seem to roll ok and not loose or sloppy. But still not comfortable driving it like this. Thought it was ice at first because it quit for awhile. Seems to be faint then picks up. any ideas? Happens at low speed or high. And just started, My Linkage is broke on transfer case I think also

Well this is what I have done, I have pulled the front off the Pig or Hoghead as we call it in south. Looked for damage ( none ) resealed it will add fluid tomorrow.
Pulled off wheels and hubs and seen they were NEW bearings so reinstalled . changed break pads just because they needed it. Will drive again and try to locate the issue again. Checked fluid in transfer case its ok ,,,WOULD the transfer case make that racket ? Next up is to take front drive shaft off and drive to see if it makes the noise. Any Ideas ????

Thanks Brian

Ok you have 2 threads started for same problem?. Does that have cv shafts in axle ends? They can click . Grind. And even rattle at certain speeds . And even more so while turning. Caliper mounts can rattle . . Ive even seen lower control arm wear the holes out. And seem tight. But hit a bump and bang rattle sqeak grind some more thoughts

Yes very well could be the chain. They get lose and rattle .pull front shaft out drive it and test. Ive seen those chains rub a hole thu the bottom of tcase from lose chain

If its the chain its a easy fix. And pretty cheap, if in fact its been rubbing the bottom of tcase. And theres lots of shavings in there. Id check the thickness of the case in the spot may need to replase case?....
